Extended Maintenance Aerie Peak

Postby Tullibardine » Wed Aug 13, 2014 5:36 pm

Heard so much strange things in guild chat I preferred just to type it here instead.

The reason for the maintenance is that Aerie Peak realm server is being moved from the New York data center to Chicago were all the other realms that belong to our cross realm group is already. We are one of the 2 realm still left in New York and both are getting extended maintenance this Thursday. So after this move New York as a data center will be shut down. When all realms have been moved around there should only be 2 data centers for us realms that being Chicago and Los Angeles. As information they are shutting down Phoenix as well as a data center, after this weeks maintenance there are only 2 realms left in Phoenix.

Then there are those that think Aerie Peak will get connected, only thing I need to say is how many weeks ago was it when the realm was full and queued at peak hour? Meaning it isn't going to happen.

So the only reason that Aerie Peak would get a extended maintenance at the moment is that something is about to go terrible wrong with the hardware in New York or that they are moving it. Considering that both realms still in New York are having maintenance tells me that they are doing the move. Both realms are to large for being considered for a connection so they are just being moved.

The 2 realms in New York that are getting moved is Aerie Peak and Kel'Thuzad. When they moved other realms that where not connected they also got a extended maintenance as information.

I will at least be checking if they moved the realm on Thursday or not. Should be easy enough to check just by looking at my latency. But will be running a tracert as well, to see where i end up.

Thank you very much or the info! I know there are so many opposed to AP getting a connected realm, but I really don't know what the big deal is. I would love to be able to have 11 more alts the same realm as aerie peak.

Is anybody else missing any characters since this maintenance? I'm missing my Shaman and I have just spoken to another guildie who is missing all of his toons on Aerie Peak now.

Make a ticket, at least my suggestion. Heard it happening when they do connections. But then again don't understand it if they move everything from one spot to some other without a connection.

Just out of sheer nerd I.T curiosity, did this move actually happen? I ran a traceroute to Aerie Peak and its still returning from NYC.

Well looking at the ip numbers, the realm changed from a 199.109 number to a 199.108 number. All the realm that are in Chicageo starts with 199.108, and all the New York realms where 199.109. That is what I can check number wise. Then there is the fact I come from Sweden and looking at the way I get jumps in latency, I always start of in the states in New York and then cross the country and get more and more latency. For me I got a 15ms jump after the connection and that is what Chicago gave me before the connection so guessing it happened. I have some extra jumps that i didn't have before the connection.

Can show my trace

Tracing route to 199.108.49.49 over a maximum of 30 hops

20 129 ms 129 ms 129 ms 63.240.130.194

The rest of the jumps just time out

I didn't have the jumps from 16 and forward before the move. Couldn't place it geographically, but considering the latency from previous Chicago realms it should be there.
If it where Phoenix I would have gotten about 150ms, and LA is 180ms for me.

I have been following the connected realm forum pages and one of the posters there has been updating the wowpedia Realm list. Seems he has some tool that can pinpoint the location better. No idea what he is using but. Looking at it from latency point of view it seems to be correct.

This is the realm list that on wowpedia
http://wowpedia.org/US_realm_list_by_datacenter

Hope that answers some of your questions

Well I managed to become more nerdy just because of your question and, came up with something I didn't think about. Started to look for sites that actually start there traces from different location.

Found this site:
http://cloudmonitor.ca.com/en/traceroute.php

Then I just starting looking for Aerie Peak from different starting positions and that way I figured out it really has to be close to Chicago. Not all locations seem to be able to get close to the location within 20 jumps, or just have problems getting there.
The ip address I use is 199.108.49.49, since that is what my program tells me is Aerie Peak. I will never reach the realm since it always is blocked the last few steps. But do at least see a pattern after a few jumps.

The short story is that from Chicago the response time seems to be less then 5ms. No other location on the site is anywhere close to it or doesn't get anywhere close to the location to start with. If wondering I get 22ms from New York.

Media is ruling the world in this technological world. media is a fast network to share the information. Get http://www.toptenwritingservices.com/ info to manage their trusted work. We should appreciate media instead of criticizing the media. And it is also the duty of the media to circulate the authentic information to the people.
