Tips for Raid Leaders in WoD

Hey gang!

So, with Warlords of Draenor, there are more options than ever for raiders in the World of Warcraft. The additions of flexible raiding for Normals and Heroics (with loot lockouts) has dramatically changed the landscape for raid leaders everywhere. And I think now more than ever, raid leaders need to step up their games.

As a raid leader, you need to be extra communicative so that you can manage everyone's expectations. That goes for loot, for regular gameplay, and what that means when you're having problems too. Because of the flexible style, you really should put some things down in writing before your next raid night.

LOOT:
How is loot to be distributed in your raid? Personal loot will remove all the drama and hassle associated with it, but maybe you want to do a loot council or other method of distributing all the pretty purples. Whatever your method, please let your players know exactly what it is so they can prepare appropriately.

PROGRESSION:
This is a topic that has come up time and time again. As your team progresses through Normals and Heroics, there are a TON of different options for raid leaders when it comes to raid composition. If you're struggling to make it past certain encounters, will you change up your team? And if so, how? Come up with a method that works for your team, and then do your best to STICK WITH THE PLAN.

For example, in my team (The Asparagus Initiative) we have a rule that heroic progression will be done with the Mythic team until we have 2 kills on the boss. After that point, we'll bring in the full team to make sure we're maximizing loot potential. We also have guidelines for how we pick the Mythic team, how people can challenge leadership decisions, and so on. In other words, while we have some tough decisions to make every week, we try to be as transparent as possible with how we select members for any type of progression.

THE FINAL SAY:
Make sure people know who is a part of raid leadership, and have a little structure. For example, let's say Players A, B, C, and D are a part of the leadership and the loot council, but Player A is the raid leader. If there's a tie in the loot council, perhaps Player A breaks that tie. He or she may also has final say on team composition, or perhaps it's part of a group process. However you'd like to structure it, the most important thing is: the STRUCTURE.

So... TL;DR:
• Structure your team
• Be transparent
• Communicate
• And try to think ahead to all of the possibilities raiding in WoD has to offer.

Thanks... now go have some fun!
